Jonathan Shanks is a Junior at Jefferson City High School where he has earned an impressive 4.0 GPA. He is very involved in extracurricular activities and community service. He serves on the JCHS Student Council, Co-Chaired the Salute to Service T-shirt and was Chair of the Winter Sports Shopping Cart Parade. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Council for Drug Free Youth, and volunteered with Reading Buddies and the Spring Service Project benefitting the Salvation Army. He served as a Youth Ambassador last year and is learning Sign Language. He says “Advocacy is necessary in communities to make sure that children are healthy and sober in their crucial teen years. Without good role models for these teenagers, they could end up abusing drugs, as well as creating health problems, legal trouble, and shattered relationships. Programs like the Council for Drug Free Youth and Youth Ambassadors are good advocates to help with alcohol and drug prevention.”
